Vines
Quinta das Torres is located by the entrance to the municipality of Oliveira, some 4.5km from the town of Peso da Régua, set right in the Designated Region of the Douro (Baixo Corgo), within the former area of Vinos de Feitoria, demarcated in 1756 by the Marquis de Pombal. They are also a part of the current sub-region of Douro, subject of the recent world heritage classification by UNESCO. It boasts around 30 hectares of grapevines set in slate terroirs with a sharp inclination and south-eastern exposure. Slightly to its left, stands the majestic granite massif of Marão, while below and by the Douro river, lies the town of Peso de Regua.
BREED VARIETIES
The main (95%) grape breeds cultivated, are: White varieties – Malvasia Fina, Verdelho (Gouveio), Rabigato, Viozinho and Moscatel Galego Blanco; Red varieties – Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz y Tinto Cão; The average age of the vines is 25 to 30 years, with the most recent one, around 4 ha in size, having been planted in 2009 (Touriga Franca and Viozinho), as part of VITIS, while the oldest is a vine over 80 years of age and a surface of nearly 6 ha (a mix of traditional red varieties from the Duero).
WINES
Beyond the approx. 40 to 50 thousand litres of wine (PORT) produced and sold each year in bulk to the great sister companies that export this precious nectar, the estate began in 1991 to bottle it annually, in a consistent manner, under the brand name “SEDINHAS – CASA DAS TORRES”, and more recently also “CONSENSUAL”, a volume of more than 50 thousand bottles of wine, with the Douro D.O.C., both white and red, with and without special mention (Reserve, Grande Escolha/Great Choise, Special Reserve, Great Reserve, Garrafeira, Colheita Seleccionada, Premium, Top Premium, Vinhas Velhas)..
